Artist Statement

My work explores the interdependence between art and communication. I experiment with the ubiquitous nature of technology today in order to provide the opportunity for new kinds of expression by my participants. My art functions as a framework where users can interact and make it their own. By exploring new forms of interaction I intend to reveal hidden networks between people.

My current work is inspired by the idea of a hero’s journey towards transcendence. I am creating work that acts as an interface between what my participants already know and what can be discovered. I am interested in what people can learn from each other, within situations that I create. The interface takes its form as a series of interactive tasks. Each step along the way is a type of interaction with the work that brings the participant closer to understanding a hidden architecture of connection between themselves and the work.

My methods include working with the nature of cyberspace and its prospect of bringing people closer together. I use technology to give people a way to tap into a network, to share something from within. In the past I have used text messaging, brainwaves, and electric shock as ways for people to connect. Each medium creates a new way for people to communicate and learn about one another.

In all my work I hope to push research and human experience within the field of art and technology, by creating unique and exciting systems for expression and interaction.
