About Me

Frederick "Derick" Ostrenko is a new media artist and Assistant Professor within Louisiana State University's Digital Art concentration. While at LSU he also works as a researcher in their AVATAR (Arts, Visualization, Advanced Technology, and Research) initiative. He is a recent graduate from Rhode Island School of Design where he earned an MFA in Digital + Media. His interactive environments focus on revealing hidden networks between people by creating structures for new kinds of expression and discovery. Installations that use brainwaves, text messages, live video processing, and electric shock have all been used as interfaces for people to explore their identity and connect with other participants. Much of Derick’s work is inspired by a hero’s journey towards transcendence and how that narrative might relate to a participant’s experience within a digitally augmented environment.

Derick has recently exhibited at Art Jail (New York), Maker Faire (Providence), New West Electronic Arts & Music Festival (San Diego), Polk Museum of Art, and Fountain Art Fair - Art Basel (Miami).
